On Hold

The post-World War II wool cap designated as the "Type D-1A", the heavy winter cap for air crew personnel. The cap was constructed of the blue wool that had been adopted for the uniform of the new Air Force branch after the creation of that branch in 1947. The cap is, however, stenciled with the "Army Air Forces" insignia, likely because the manufacturer of the cap had not yet adapted its clothing stencils for the new branch. The cap is tagged as a size "Small", shows little use, and is in near mint, unissued condition.
