Near Mint Type 99 Army EM/NCO Canteen
This Type 99 Army EM/NCO canteen has the cork stopper that was introduced in late 1942 as a modification to the existing Type 99 canteen design. The cloth carrying harness is the late war style which eliminated the lower horizontal strap of the harness as a cost-saving measure. This type of strap has the nickname of the Fundoshi harness because it resembles that garment, a Japanese loin cloth. This example of the Army canteen does not appear to have ever been issued. The exterior olive brown paint is nearly 100% intact. The cork shows no signs of contact with liquid. The harness and carrying strap are quite clean and crisp. There is a faint issue stamp still visible on the strap. Exceptional condition all around.
