WWII Japanese Navy Officer Shin Gunto Sword
The sword has a blade length of approximately 24 1/2 inches, with an overall length of 35 inches. Thee tang bears the anchor emblem of the Imperial Navy. The blade is quite bright, with a light even temper line. The grip is wrapped in fabric in the traditional style, the fabric being dark from having been handled in a tropical climate. Beneath the wrap is the menuki of three cherry blossoms. The tsuba is a plain iron style. The scabbard is laquered wood in a burgundy color with gilt brass fittings on which some gilt remains. Attached to the carrying ring of the scabbard is an officer's sword knot. The knot shows wear but is in very good condition.
