Type 19 Company Grade Officer Sword / Hojo Crest
A very nice example of a Type 19 officer's sword which was personalized with the addition of a mon, or family crest of the Hojo clan, on the pommel. The plated blade is quite bright, approximately 29 inches long, with a few small spots where the plating has lifted. The pierced guard is tarnished brass, and there appears to be some original gilt remaining on the guard, particularly underneath the basket. the grip is leather over wood, triple wrapped with wire. The wire has come loose in a few spots but it is intact. The nickel scabbard has a golden-yellow "film" to it but the plating appears to be largely intact beneath the grime and the scabbard would likely respond very well to a careful cleaning to remove the surface dirt.
