WWII Japanese War Wound Badge
The War Wound badge was awarded in two different versions, distinguished by the kanji on the reverse. One type was awarded for wounds received in battle, while the other type was awarded for wounds received while in the public service, but in fact it was most frequently awarded when a soldier contracted a disease such as malaria. This example is the version awarded for a battle wound. There are small chips to the red enamel at the ends of each of the four arms of the cross.
