WWII Type A-11 Leather Flight Helmet
click for an even bigger image

A well worn example of the Type A-11 Army Air Force flight helmet. This helmet was obviously worn by a flight crew member on numerous missions. The exterior leather has some loss of pigment but remains supple. There is a small piece of leather that is missing from the front "visor" of the helmet, and it's obvious that this was the spot where the crewman repeatedly grabbed the visor with his thumb and forefinger to pull it off of his head, thereby resulting in a bit of loss to the leather at that one spot. There is wear and use evident on the interior lining. The helmet is tagged as a size medium.
