Near Mint Unissued M1917A1 Combat Helmet
click for an even bigger image

An exceptional example of the modified M1917 helmet that was approved in 1934 with a new liner and chin strap design. The M1917A1 went into full production in 1941 but was quickly replaced by the M1 combat helmet. The M1917A1 saw action early in the Pacific War in places such as Corregidor and Wake Island. This example appears to have never been issued or, if it was, to have received only the most minimal use. The leather liner is quite clean, and the rough combat exterior has some water spots which could well have come from storage. The interior rim is stamped "4B". The chin strap is the early "T" buckle configuration with a raised bar buckle. Near unissued condition.
