This item is in fact comprised of two separate documents that reflect one Japanese citizen's support of the war effort.

The smaller document is a type of receipt that attests to the donation of 100 yen to "National Defense Enhancement" in 1940 by Mr. Yasuda Yasuhiro. The document is signed by Navy Paymaster Lt. Commander Chatani Tokai.

The larger document is about 9 1/2 by 12 inches, with some age toning to the reverse from having been stored in its original mailing tube for decades. The document has some faint creases, but it is very presentable. The document itself is a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Yasuda Yasuhiro for his monetary donation "On the occasion of this emergency National Defense expansion...". The document carries the personal seal of Navy Minister Oikawa Koshiro, and it is accompanied by the original mailing tube in which it was sent to Yasuda Yasuhiro.
