WWI French Ambulance Equipment Basket / Bench
A large wicker basket that was a part of the equipment within a French ambulance in World War I. The basket served as a container for equipment as well as a bench for seating within the ambulance. It is approximately 31 inches long, 13 1/2 inches wide, and 10 1/2 inches tall. There is a heavy canvas top on the basket that is stenciled "Panier [Basket] No. 1 Operations & Bandages." The basket has heavy leather reinforcements at the top corners, a wrought iron clasp for locking the lid, and rope carrying straps on each end. Additionally, the name "J.C. Tucker" is written on the canvas lid next to the Red Cross emblem. Very good condition.
