US M17 Camouflage Combat Helmet
click for an even bigger image

A very fine example of a camouflaged Model 1917 American combat helmet. The camouflage pattern was executed with swirls of green and medium brown paint using the original dark brown paint of the helmet as an integral part of the pattern. There is, interestingly, a small area of bright yellow applied to one side of the helmet as well. In fact, it's so bright that it seems likely that the solider applied the yellow as a part of a summer-autumn camouflage paint scheme and then, concluding that it was just too obvious, decided not to use it again on any other part of his helmet. The interior of the helmet rim has a stamp that is not entirely clear but which appears to be "ZL74". The chin strap is present but the liner is missing.
