click for an even bigger image

A large, cylindrical bamboo container which during the war was filled with supplies or equipmemt and air dropped by parachute to Japanese soldiers for whom supply by ship or boat was not possible. The container is 26 inches long and 8 inches in diameter. The container is in its original olive green paint. There are the scuffs and scratches that you would certainly expect to find in a bamboo container that had been dropped out of a plane, and there is the typical rust on the metal components that is natural in a tropical environment, but overall the container is in very good condition.
